It's been such an amazing year. I'm really surprised and shocked.

I thought well, if a little kid is going to take off to her grandmother's, she must, in my mind, like the woods and nature. The journal thing comes right up again.

One of the hallmarks of any book about her is we don't really know her. We know the story, and there's different ways different cultures have told that story, but I really wanted to get to know her as a character.
